| Notes | A high speed engine, designed for racing boats and generating duties. The aluminium crankcase fully enclosed the crosshead, connecting rod and crankshaft in an oil bath. The crank was overhung, with a ball bearing (hence the "BB" designation) mounted in the front crankcase wall. The earliest reference I have to it is in a 1932 Bassett-Lowke catalogue - examples of this engine are quite scarce nowadays |
