After fifteen years of drawings flat, third angle projection drawings in AutoCAD I've finally converted over to a solid modelling CAD system. This works in a fundamentally different way - parts are modelled on screen, the software allows them to be assembled, rotated, examined for potential mechanical interference and animated to evaluate mechanisms (which has been particularly useful for looking at valve gear). Workshop drawings for manufacture, exploded assembly drawings and part programs for all our CNC machines are produced automatically.
